This book is the fouth in the series of stories of the Dubno Maggid, adapted for our times. The first three volumes, "The Blind Thief," "Run for Your Life" and "No Taxes Please!" were warmly received by teachers and students alike as a valuable tool for gaining moral insights through the age-old vehicle of the parable. The success of the first three volumes inspired the author to produce this fourth volume.

Although the Dubno Maggid's stories and parables were widely accepted for many generation, they are difficult to comprehend in our day and age. There is no difficulty in understanding the stories themselves, but the morals to be learned from them are generally presented through midrashim and verses with such complex pilpul that the stories often remain enigmatic to the reader. The unfortunate result is that without the lessons they were meant to convey, the whole purpose in retelling the stories is lost.

Throughout the author's experience in teaching and public speaking, he has attempted to extract the morals from the stories and parables of the Dubno Maggid, and to make them more comprehensible. The reactions of his listeners demonstrated to him that his effforts were worthwhile.

This success led to the publication of the Hebrew editions of this book, "Mishlei Mussar." The sefer was published with vowels and illustrations so that it would be beneficial not only to rabbies, teachers and parents, but to children as well.

When the decision was taken to make these volumes available to the English reader, the author translated the first volume into English and split it into four books, of which the present book is the fourth. In order for the stories to be more entertaining and realistic, they were elaborated on and adapted to situations common to the English-speaking public. - from Amzon
